mrpike, I suggest that you follow the advice of Les and NerdBoy. Also you must fill your site with content yourself. The biggest mistake that people make when starting a forum or other site is they do not add anything (or enough content) but expect to get people to join and have them post the content. Nothing can be further from the truth!
If you came to this site and saw no graphics or only one or 2 posts what would you think about this site? What would you tell everyone else about this site? When you create a site it is your job to provide content that is interesting enough to keep people talking about it and coming back. Websites are about a viewing experience. No posts or info = no enjoyable experience.
I believe your site is about fishing, correct? Do you have info about the different types of lures available and how to use them to catch the right type of fish? Any info about rods, reels, the best places to fish? Safety, boating, etc.?
The point is to fill your site with enough interesting information as well as the latest industry info to keep anyone how may be lurking coming back and want to register. These people will tell other about it. Google rankings do not matter if no one likes the site anyways. It doesn't matter if you do not have many people there. They will come eventually.
