It was suggested that I create a tutorial, but I'm more of a freeform kinda guy... so I will explain this and provide a few samples, and we can add to this thread. These badges are created to place on friends sites to get traffic back to the home site. Some have html or code attached to point to your url. The standard size is 88px width by 31px height, but for ease of sight mostly, you can start with a size of 352px X 124px and reduce the size when finished. Here is an example of a friends block I found on another site.
Ok, so i created a new image then found a background image. Scale the background to fit the size you are working with. Then duplicate the layer and add any style you would like to this layer. Create a text layer and duplicate it to add style if you like. When ya get it just right, merge the layers, resize and save. But, as you can see in my example, the size limits getting very wild with the graphics, they are hard to discern at this size. So, you can see in the second example how much more readable they are with solid or gradient backgrounds and stroked text. Also a good idea to make them for dark and light background pages. And I use a little program called unfreeze to create an annimated .gif... 8)

I am also a free style type of guy that's why I don't do tutorials I also never read instructions I don't need no stinkin instructions LOL. Warning !! not reading instructions can cause you to end up with extra parts . :)
