LMAO! That's how you learn. If you go the cheap route you will learn by either wasting money until you get it right or go without until you do get it right. LOL That's how I started learning about computers...never had a lot of money and had to make everything stretch and last as long as possible until I could afford better.

I am glad this topic was posted. I was thinking of getting an extended range router and was in Best Buy looking at a few cause I was there for something else. I have already thought of getting a wired router to extend it but did not want to run the extra cabling throughout the house up to the 2nd floor. The main router is in the basement where the phone jack is. :P

Problem is running wires up to the 2nd floor without them getting in the way or costing a lot to hide them. My gf has a laptop, I have an iPod Touch and my PC, we have a Wii, and the kids have Nintendo DSi's and a PC in the basement. All are connected via MAC authentication to the main router. I had to go that route when I discovered a neighbor using my net.

I'm considering sending Verizon's router back to them and using something I can hack for linux reasons....for my main router. Am also considering using the old PC in the basement as a firewall...

It is cheaper and easier to go wireless but I have to warn you that even wireless N is still only half as fast as a wired connection all the hype I heard about wireless N was just that .
It is still no where near as fast as a wired connection It is better than wire less G. I only buy from online stores Like Newegg.ca  NCIX.com tigerdirect.ca if you are on the otherside of the big pond there are online stores closer to you I'm sure and if you shop around and watch the specials you can get a router for half of what you pay at Bestbuy.

Yeah, I know wired is faster but can be more of a pain to install. :P LOL It more or less depends on my mood and whether I have extra time or not...

If I buy online, (sometimes I do, sometimes I don't) I usually shop at newegg.com or tigerdirect.com (I used to get their catalogs in the mail a lot.). I'm on this side of the pond. :P I shop at Bestbuy because of their black tie warranty. They will fix it or replace it with a new one or updated one. I can drop my iPod or pour water on it and either get it fixed or replaced. I like that kind of "piece of mind"...especially when my teens are playing around with my stuff! ;)

NerdBoy:
There is also NCIX.com as well as NCIX.ca I have got some good deals there also have noticed since the recession there is not as good of deals to be had at the online stores.

That's every now. No more good deals even though we are still in a recession. According to the government we are out of it but they don't have my job or live where I do either. LOL
